What:  A 350 mile (FL350) or 400 mile (QuadZilla), Randonneur-style endurance event encompassing all 11 of the Finger Lakes.

 

When: Saturday , starting time 5:am sharp and ending 40 hours later.

 

Where:  The start location is Wegmans Market on Rte.13 in Ithaca, NY. The Meadow Court motel is just across the street, 800-852-4014, $69 Friday/$59 Sunday. Re-register with your credit card one of the rooms reserved under “QuadZilla”.  A Super 8 and Hampton Inn are close by but more expensive. Cost:  $150. includes a shared motel room in Auburn.  Please fill out the registration form and return it promptly.  Use Active or a check. This is a not-for-profit brevet and all money will be spent on providing riders with the best possible event.

 

Registration & Bike Inspection:  Beginning at 4:am Saturday at the designated Wegmans parking area.  Front and rear lights required, see below.

 

Time Limit:  40 hours  (10 mph pace for QuadZilla) to finish by 9:pm Sunday back at the Meadow Court Inn, across the street from Wegmans.

 

Bag Sag: Single duffel bag (please label bag) will be sagged to 2 rest stops: a control at Gannett Hill at ~100 (FL) / 120 (QZ) miles and the sleep stop in Auburn at 230 (FL) / 280 (QZ) miles.

 

Sleep Arrangements: Main rest stop will be in Auburn, NY at the Auburn Super 8, 315-253-8886. We have a block of rooms booked  and we will pair up cyclists as they arrive.

 We strongly suggest you choose the $150.”Shared Room” entry fee and let us take care of the room arrangements in Auburn.

 For those who just want to shower and eat, a room will be available but pack a towel.  If you plan on riding through the late night past Auburn, note that all stores will be closed except the 24 hour mini-mart at the Tully checkpoint (~272/325 miles) and then not until the finish.

 

Designated Check Points: Gannett Hill, Springwater, Letchworth State Park (QuadZilla only), Canandaigua,  Auburn, and Tully, plus Secret Controls.  Most check points are located at restaurants or convenience stores. We’ll have sandwiches/snacks/pasta at Gannett Hill and hot food (burgers, pancakes, etc) at Canandaigua and Auburn. Otherwise, you are responsible for  your own food .

 

Lighting Requirements:  Securely mounted lighting and reflective materials consisting of:

Front halogen/HID lighting of at least 6 volt, 2.4 watts or LED 2 watts visible for at least 1000 ft.

Red, non-blinking rear light (NYS law) visible for at least 500 ft. Reflective ankle bands and pedal backs are suggested.

Reflective triangle or vest is to be worn as the outermost garment throughout the night.

We suggest you bring spare bulbs and batteries and cover yourself and your bike with reflective material.

 

Course Profile: Start to Geneseo: encounter numerous climbs of 800 to 1500 feet. Geneseo to Canandaigua: choppy rollers.  Canandaigua to Auburn: rolling terrain. Auburn to Ithaca: more climbs with one climb in particular being extremely steep and this will be noted on the cue sheet.  We  recommend a 39x26 or a triple. Total climbing is over 28,000 ft. so be prepared.

 

QuadZilla Notes: QuadZilla riders will split from the FL350 route numerous times. The main split to Letchworth State Park comes just after Springwater. There is an information checkpoint in Letchworth where you will be required to fill in the answer on your brevet card to a question on a historical plaque. QuadZilla riders should be in super condition - a cut-off time will be established for the split after Springwater.
